The Green Island School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dan Kalbfliesh as the district’s new Superintendent.

Dear Heatly Community,

We are writing to inform you that on Monday, July 1st, the Green Island Board of Education appointed Dr. Dan Kalbfliesh as the Superintendent of Schools. Since August 2022, Dr. Kalbfliesh has served as a district-level administrator and most recently, Acting Superintendent since February 28, 2024.

During his tenure at Heatly, Dr. K has been instrumental in the development of the district’s most important initiatives, including our laser focus on school improvement and the academic success and well-being of our students, impactful professional development, and robust support for our faculty, and capital improvements to our facility that ensure our students have a safe learning environment. As Acting Superintendent, Dr. K immediately and seamlessly stepped up and demonstrated his ability to lead this district operationally and fiscally effectively.

We are excited about the vision Dr. K has for Heatly. This includes streamlined instruction areas at the primary level that will promote academic continuity and improved outcomes for learners, a restructure that creates a true middle school experience, additional opportunities for secondary students to explore college in the high school, increased opportunities in the trades and a wide offering of sports through our strategic partnership with Watervliet, a before- and after-school program that provides a fun and educational experience for kids while helping families with child care, an on-site behavioral health team that supports students and their families and an investment in our faculty that is creating homegrown expertise and resources that will benefit our learners of today and the future. We are heartened to see the support he’s garnered and the excitement around his approach from students, faculty, staff, and the administrative team.

The board looks forward to working closely with Dr. K toward our shared goals.

Sincerely,

Andrea Ryan
Board of Education President
