Emily Burke has the best of both worlds when it comes to working in education as she’s both an instructor and a student. Ms. Burke has been a teacher’s aide at Heatly for one year and works with a wide range of students. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), which she earned in the fall of 2021. In addition, Ms. Burke is currently pursuing a master’s degree in social work at the University at Albany.
Before joining Heatly last September, Ms. Burke was employed part-time at Northern Rivers. She worked in a group home for youth between the ages of 17 and 21, while simultaneously earning her bachelor’s degree.
Ms. Burke’s prior experience working with kids helped make her transition to Heatly simple as she enjoys “…creating relationships with all students from each grade level.” Moreover, she likes that every day brings something new and that her daily schedule can vary. Ms. Burke also mentioned that she “loves to work with the amazing counseling team” at Heatly.
Although Ms. Burke is just beginning her career in education, she’s received a few valuable pieces of advice from her colleagues. However, the best advice she’s been given so far is that “the kids who need the most love will ask for it in the most unique ways.”
A fun fact about Ms. Burke is that she has an older brother and two younger sisters — one of which also works at Heatly! She’s about to become an aunt for the first time as well.
