On Tuesday, May 21, residents of Green Island approved the $8.69 million budget for the 2024-25 school year.
With 56 in favor and 39 opposed, residents approved the $8,696,054 budget that calls for an increase in total spending of $552,342 from the current year and a tax levy increase of 5.79%, which is below the district’s tax levy cap. The budget sustains educational programming and extracurricular activities for students while maximizing efficiencies to reduce costs from a variety of departments within the district.
Residents also voted to fill three Board of Education seats. Heather Johnson, Christina Nolet and Andrea Ryan were elected to the board, receiving 86, 82 and 81 votes, respectively.
“I would like to thank the Green Island community for their continued support of our school,” said Acting Superintendent Dan Kalbfliesh. “We are thankful to be able to maintain educational programming at Heatly for the next year. We will focus on increasing academic opportunities and providing long-term financial stability.”
