Counseling Department

The school counselor works to maximize student success while promoting access and equity for all students. The school counselor also works with the administration to design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes by connecting the program to the district’s mission statement: “Every child will graduate prepared for college, career and citizenship.”

Our school counselor helps all students apply academic achievement strategies and suggests ways to manage emotions and improve interpersonal skills. The counselor also helps all students plan for post-secondary options (higher education, military or workforce).

SAT Information

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The SAT is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test created and administered by the College Board.

The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.  College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays.  How important SAT scores are in the college application process varies from school to school.

Overall, the higher you score on the SAT and/or ACT, the more options for attending and paying for college will be available to you.

Working Papers

New York State Employment certificates are required for all workers who are less than 18 years old. Applications for working papers are available in the Nurse’s office. The application requires a parent/guardian signature and a health form to be signed by the applicant’s physician verifying they had a physical examination within the past year. It is not necessary to have a job before obtaining the working papers.
