District to pilot universal breakfast program in February
Green Island UFSD will pilot a universal breakfast program throughout the month of February to make sure each student has a healthy start to the day. This means all students have the opportunity to eat breakfast free of charge everyday throughout February.
"Universal breakfast is an opportunity to ensure that all of our learners have the nutrition they need to adequately prepare them for the day," said Superintendent Dr. Mugits.
Studies show that students who eat breakfast do better in school, display a better attitude and are more energetic and productive throughout the day.
The program consists of a hot entree and a choice of juice (apple or orange), fruit cup or milk (skim, 1% white, and low-fat chocolate). Featured entrees include french toast sticks, pancakes, egg and cheese sandwich and yogurt and graham crackers. Please check the February menu (pdf) for the daily entree.
Breakfast is offered daily from 7:15-7:45 a.m.
for students in grades 7-12 and 7:20-7:50 a.m. for students K-6.
